Biotope:
Bottom-dwelling, rock-bound fish living in wave-exposed, well-oxygenated
shallow water, rarely deeper than three metres.
Geographic distribution:
Occurs along the Congolese shoreline of Lake Tanganyika from Mulunguzi
(south of Moba) at least to Mwerazi, possibly extending further south.
Special notes:
It is distinguished from S. erythrodon and other Spathodus
variants found between Kalemie and Moba by an overall white–beige body
coloration (instead of dark brown or blackish), white–beige dots on the body
(instead of blue), wider white–beige bars on the trunk (instead of yellowish),
and a possibly distinct tooth morphology described as “protruding teeth”.
