Tribe / Genus: Lamprologini / Neolamprologus
Geographic distribution: Southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This form is found between the Lunangwa River and Nkorosha. Documented localities include Kapampa, Kiku, Lunangwa, and Nkorosha.
Special notes: Two leleupi-like species occur in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and are considered intermediate between N. leleupi and N. mustax. Between the Lunangwa River and Nkorosha, Neolamprologus sp. ‘Leleupi Kapampa’ is present, while south of the Lunangwa River and probably extending to Moliro, Neolamprologus sp. ‘Leleupi Blue Chin’ is found.

Neolamprologus sp. ‘Leleupi Kapampa’ was found by Ad Konings at Kapampa. African Diving has exported this species from Kapampa as well as from Kiku and Lunangwa. Heinz H. Büscher reported whitish leleupi-like populations from Nkorosha, which are regarded as very likely representing the same species as the Kapampa form.

Leleupi-like species in this region are frequently encountered in multiple color variants, including yellow, beige, dark brown, and nearly black. In several locations, different color variants have been observed occurring together.
