Lamprologus finalimus (holotype)
Tribe / Genus: Lamprologini/Lamprologus
Type locality: Uvira, Lake Tanganyika.
Geographic distribution: The holotype and only known specimen is labeled as coming from Uvira at the extreme north end of Lake Tanganyika.
Typical adult size: The unique type measures 45.6 mm standard length and approximately 55 mm total length.
Special notes: Lamprologus finalimus is known only from a single specimen (the holotype) and has never been observed alive. The original description does not provide a clear diagnosis, stating only that it is more or less allied to L. calliurus and L. reticulatus (the latter being a synonym of L. callipterus). The species belongs to the so-called ossified group of lamprologines. Based on the original description and illustration, it is characterized by its small size, laterally compressed body, rounded dorsal profile, plain light coloration with rows of dots, faint fin markings, and a truncated caudal fin. These features suggest affinities with the leloupi–caudopunctatus species group, although its exact identity remains unresolved. The absence of confirmed records from the vicinity of the type locality has led to long-standing speculation, including the possibility that the type specimen represents a northern population of a related species or that the locality data may be inaccurate. The taxonomic status of this species can only be clarified by targeted field surveys along the Congolese coast of Lake Tanganyika.
